Now Reading: waxpoetics 42 (The R&B Issue)
Bella just brought the new issue home for me and I kinda geeked out when I saw D’Angelo on the cover. waxpoetics has a way of covering the lives & music of an artist like very few publications can so it’s gonna be dope to read this piece. Add Erykah Badu, Barry White & Gil Scott-Heron to the mix and this is gonna be a dope issue (Did I mention there are write ups on Joi’s Amoeba Cleansing Syndrome, Bilal & ATL’s own Spree Wilson?). So don’t deny yourself, pick it up if you haven’t yet.
I’m about 2 months late on this one.
I’ve missed talking about a lot of things in my hiatus but I have to pay respects to a man that helped mold how I listen to music. On June 16th we lost Garry Shider, who was a very integral part of Parliament-Funkadelic (And if you really know me you know how much I love P-Funk).
While he co-wrote and sang on hits like One Nation Under A Groove & Atomic Dog I’ll always remember Mr. Shider for his gut wrenching & haunting vocals on Cosmic Slop.
Rest In Peace Mr. Shider, thank you for the inspiration.

I Want To Go To There: Fullsteam Brewery

Tonight in Durham, NC Fullsteam Brewery will have it’s official opening. While GQ’s claims that Fullsteam is saving & inventing Southern beer may be a stretch I’m still very curious to try what they brew. I mean come on, beer made from parsnips, grits, rhubarb, sweet potato, kudzu – how can you not be curious?? Luckily we have family in the Triangle so I’m sure we’ll head up there sooner than later.
